MINI USA AND THE MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS RACE TEAM CAPTURE FIRST WIN IN TC SERIES WITH #60 MINI JCW PRO

Clay Williams holds off competition to take Race 2 after hard luck challenging for the lead in Race 1

Woodcliff Lake, NJ,  May 24, 2022. MINI USA and the MINI John Cooper Works Team had an exciting weekend in the 2022 SRO TC America series at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, La., with Clay Williams securing the first win of the season and the first win for the #60 MINI JCW PRO in the Tour Car (TC) class. Williams started P3 for Race 2 after experiencing technical difficulties suffered in the midst of a hard-fought battle for the lead in Race 1 the previous day. By Lap 6 of Race 2 Williams had worked his way to the front and furiously held on to the lead until the final yellow flag, which then turned to a checkered flag.

The Brownsburg, Ind. -based LAP Motorsports team, which operates the MINI JCW Team, fielded two additional cars this weekend, with Cristian Perocarpi in #61 MINI JCW and PJ Groenke in #62 MINI JCW in the Touring Car A (TCA) class. Perocarpi placed P4 in Race 1 but was unable to finish Race 2 after making contact with another racer early on following a restart. Groenke also fell victim to race contact after hitting the wall battling the competition coming into the last turn of Race 1. The MINI JCW Team worked through the night to get the #62 MINI JCW back together for Race 2, which Groenke finished P5.

“The competition and the conditions were tough this weekend at NOLA Motorsports Park, but the team showed great resilience,” said Luis Perocarpi, team owner, LAP Motorsports. “We are so proud of Clay for staying focused and holding off the competition in Race 2 to give the team and MINI USA our first victory in the #60 MINI JCW PRO.”
