MINI TAKES THE STATES MEETS THE MOONSHINERS

Day three dawned on MINI TAKES THE STATES 2016 with motorers being given their third opportunity in as many days to experience the thrill of a circuit of a world famous motor racing track.

Hundreds of MINIs completed a lap of Richmond International Raceway, a three-quarter mile, D-shaped oval circuit, ahead of the start of a 238-mile drive through Virginia horse country to the city of Baltimore.

The MINI brand’s motorsport heritage is being celebrated throughout the 4,400-mile cross-country rally with a “track to track” theme, featuring stops at professional race tracks along the way.

On their drive to Maryland, participants called in at Tim Smith’s family farm in Culpeper, Virginia, to take a look at a distillery made famous on Discovery Channel’s Moonshiners, where corn is harvested and distilled in traditional copper pots.

The day’s motoring adventures concluded with a visit to the B & O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, recognized as the birthplace of American railroads, where in 1829 engineers set about building the first commercial long-distance rail track in the country.

With over 800 miles completed since it started in Atlanta, Georgia, the MTTS rally now follows what is known as ‘The Main Street Across America’ on US Highway 30 to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
