TARGET REACHED – NOW FOR A MILLION MEALS

Woodcliff Lake, NJ,  July 14, 2016. By day seven of MINI TAKES THE STATES 2016, after less than half the coast-to-coast rally had been completed, it was announced that generous motorers had already surpassed a fund-raising charity target to provide 800,000 meals for American families in need.

Prior to the start of the seventh leg of the 4,400-mile coast-to-coast rally from St Ignace, MI, to Green Bay, WI, organizers of MTTS 2016 and its charity partner, Feeding America, revealed that a total of 813,373 meals had been provided. And with another seven days to go before the motoring adventure reaches Palm Springs, CA, they are confident that the final total will exceed one million.

MINI enthusiasts gathering in St Ignace heard from Andrew Steiner, Feeding America’s representative in Michigan, that there was some good and bad news relating to hunger in the state. He said: “One in six families don’t know where their next meal is coming from but the good news is that seven Feeding America food banks currently provide food to the people.”

Terry Stowitts, from the St Ignace Food Pantry which is affiliated to Feeding America, thanked the motorers for their amazing, kind-hearted generosity and said that with unemployment in St. Ignace in winter rising to 80 percent, the food bank relied heavily on charity support of this kind.

Feeding America is the nation’s largest relief organization of its kind dedicated to fighting hunger through a network of food banks.

Participants in MTTS 2016 are contributing in various ways, including raising funds and awareness as they motor across the country. They are bringing food donations directly to the start of the event each day where a local MINI dealer collects donations and delivers them to a local Feeding America food bank. In addition, several motorers are helping with their own fund-raising efforts, some of which have already been reported in this blog.
